Brief Description:  Wheel Pant Gear Fairing Fabrication - Part 01

Whew, am I ever glad this project is done! The wheel pants have been mounted to the landing gear for a while now, but I've been putting off adding the little fiberglass fairings that bond to the pant. Rather then the modeling clay idea in the plans to fabricate my own from scratch (yeah, really), I opted for some super sweet pre-made fairing from Fairings-Etc. http://www.fairings-etc.com/ Just by a pair! These are really nice units and are very affordable. They will save you a ton of work. That's not to say there isn't a ton of work left to do to install them...

Before I get into the fairing installation, I have to report that my front wheel pant didn't fit the rear wheel pant in the sense that when the front part fit into the mounting shoulder of the rear part, it left about a 1/16" "step" front to back all the way around. I was going to sand it down, but didn't really like that idea. I ask about it on the RV-List and someone suggested adding 1/4" washers (both the standard and -L versions) to get the fit right. I bonded them with some Krazy glue and some dry microballons for filler. It worked GREAT! Highly recommend. There's a picture of the washers in Part 09 of this log entry.
