Brief Description:  Ameri-King AK-451 ELT w/ GPS Input - Part 1

Well, this seemed like installing the ELT was going to be a simple little project that wouldn't take more that a few hours. Wrong. This turned out to be quite the ordeal primarily because of the GPS serial data connection was so inflexible.

The Autopilot, VP-200, GRT EFIS, and FuelChec DX were all configured for NMEA0183 format at 4800 baud. This worked out well since I am using two of the GRT GPS modules which, by default, output at 4800. Basically, I have wired the GPS modules to connect directly to the EFIS HX units, then use the output on the same serial line on the EFIS to connect to the other devices needing GPS data. The only catch is that they all have to support 4800 baud since that's what's coming from the GPS modules into a given serial port on the GRT HX has to have the same input & output baud rate.
