Brief Description:  Closing The Left & Right Fuel Tanks - Part 1

Okay, there's one more job that I've been dreading since the start of this project. Closing the fuel tanks. That's because it involved copious amounts of that ooie, gooie stuff called ProSeal. What a mess. This stuff is so sticky and it just seems to get everywhere! But, the time had come and so I just bit the bullet and dove in tonight.

Closing the fuel tanks involves a number of things. At the inboard end of each take is a large hole with platenuts encompassing it. This hole allows you to service the inside of the tank if necessary. It also holds both the fuel pickup tube and the fuel-level probe. All of these have have to be assembled just so and put together in the right order and - you guessed it - all with a giant wad of that ProSeal stuff. Yeah, its that frustrating!

A word about the fuel-level probes I selected. Normally, Van's would have you install the standard, resistive-type fuel-senders with a cork float. These work okay, but tend to be pretty inaccurate and that resistor tends to wear out over time from the movement of the float arm going up and down all the time.
