Brief Description:  Closing The Left & Right Fuel Tanks - Part 2

Enter the completely solid state, Princeton Capacitive Fuel Level Probes. These units have no moving parts and measure the fuel level by detecting the capacitance created by the fuel over the sensor. Better yet, the model I selected has five calibration points that include Empty, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and Full. The sender will interpolate between the five set points giving a smooth, accurate reading between the calibration points. There is a push button on the probe that selects the calibration mode. You select the first mode, Empty, with no fuel in the tank. Then you add 1/4 of a tank full of fuel. In the case of the RV-8, this would be about 5.25 US gallons. Then you press the button to tell the probe that there is now 1/4 of a tank. Then you add another 5.25 Gallons, and press the button again. Now the probe knows that there is 1/2 of a tank of fuel. The process is continued until the fuel tank is full. The probes will now output a linear voltage that is scaled to the physics of the particular tank. Pretty sweet.
