Brief Description:  Deconstructing Ruby - Part 03

So tonight I decided it was time to stop pouting and just get to it. I got the cutoff wheel out and made two cuts along the left and right outsides where there were many rivets and screws obscured by the fiberglass fill. I removed the screws over the roll bar holding on that beautifully crafted windscreen bezel (not salvageable; boo hoo), and then started drilling out all of the rest of the rivets holding the top skin on. In about 30 minutes, all of the rivets were broken loose and with some extra pulling and cracking, I had the wind screen off, then the top skin. Whew. It was sad. But, the up side is that it will make the salvage process a whole lot easier, that's for sure. I guess its good, too, in that now I can stop obsessing over that fiberglass windscreen fairing. Out of site, out of mind.

Now that most of the major deconstructing is complete, I can actually start on the process of rebuilding and turn my attention to the shiny new RV-8 QB fuselage sitting on the other side of the workshop. Maybe my mood will change now that I'm onto the task of "building" rather than "unbuilding".
