Brief Description:  Fuel Vent & Brake Line Installation - Part - 01

The Fuel Vent Lines and Brake Lines have to be the tasks that I dread the most on the RV-8 project. They have to be snaked down through the gear towers and there just isn't enough room to do the job. Same goes for the Fuel Vent Lines. Why do these have to be wound around inside gear tower? Its almost impossible to install them when there's nothing else in the way like the instrument panel or top forward skin. If one of these lines ever broke, it would be nearly impossible to replace.

Anyway, enough griping! The Fuel Vent Lines were both recoverable from the old fuselage. These lines come in the side of the fuselage and then make a big loop up to the top of the gear tower and then go all the way down and out under the fuselage. The end of the tube has a slight bend forward and then is beveled off forward into the air stream. It basically acts like a mild form of pressurization on the inside of the fuel tank. Since I could reuse these Vent Lines it didn't take too long to get them installed in the new fuselage.

Next up was the brake lines. Since all of this stuff on the old fuselage still had brake fluid, I had to drain everything and then let it drip out over night. I removed all of the hoses and fittings and tubes and cleaned everything with lacquer thinner. I was per-usual dreading this job, but it turned out to be fairly straightforward without too much fuss or mess.
