Brief Description:  Front & Rear Throttle Quadrant - Part 01

This part was a fair amount of work because the damage to the landing gear mount on the old fuselage caused some damage to the front throttle quadrant mounts and they needed to be refabricated. Additionally, the rear mount for the rear throttle quadrant has to be cut in-fuselage because it's already riveted on. This makes getting it marked and cut and filed quite an ordeal. On my first try, I got a bit over zealous with the file and ended up having to "round things off" a lot more than I wanted. I was bummed. Then, I noticed that the hole for the front throttle quadrant is larger than quadrant by a fair amount. I made a pattern of the front hole and applied it to the back hole and was delighted to find that the new pattern was just enough bigger that I could completely cut out my boo-boo. So, you'll never know the first hole cut was an epic fail. :-/ Drilling the holes in the side bulkheads for the front-to-back pushrods was kind of an ordeal as well. I used the old fuselage as a template and two of the three penetrations came out perfect. For some reason, on the third - the one right behind the front quadrant - I got it .25" too high and the pushrods would drag! Arg, by that time, though, I had everything installed. So, everything got disassembled, then I opted to just make both the front and back hole larger by .25" and biased the front hole so that the push rods would clear. I had to use both new spar bulkhead caps (blue piece in picture) to finally get a layout that looked good. But, it was worth it and the replacement from Van's was only $9. Cheap insurance to get a perfect fit.

So all-in-all, this task was a giant PITA, but when all is said and done it came out pretty nice. I'd say about as good as the first time. Maybe a schosh better because I didn't have to make the rear pushrod hole as big this time.

Whew, glad this part is DONE.
