Brief Description:  Kenwood Stereo Remote Box - Part 01

With the rebuild, I upgraded the Kenwood car entertainment system I had. The new model plugs into the same mount as the old unit, but has a lot of new features, nonetheleast of which is a display with over 3 times the resolution! Its gorgous! The unit has a much faster processor CPU too, and so all of the UI stuff is much quicker. They've also implemented a swipe UI that's kind of like the Android or iPhone. Pretty cool stuff. Also, the unit now seems to handle the two USB thumb drives and the 120GB of MP3 music much better. I can actually browse all of the various tracks and it navigates around the folders much quicker.

The new unit also has a Digital AM/FM tuner *built in* this time, so I didn't need the external one. I did still need the remote display monitor (on pilot's headrest) controller and power supply for the passenger Cam. The old XM Radio receiver didn't work with this unit either, so I had to integrate the new one into the remote box. There was plenty of room with the Digital AM/FM board removed. I was really pleased that I was able to reuse the old box I fabbed up with only a couple of small modifications and did not damage the paint. Looks as cool as before, just with different guts!

These kind of projects are what get you big bonus points at Oshkosh judging. Bring it on!
