Brief Description:  Wiring The Stick Grips In - Part 01

The big wad of wires that come from each of the stick grips comes up behind the instrument panel and is wired in to a variety of places behind the panel. There are a couple dozen connections between the two stick grips, some are common between the two, some are not. In Ruby 1.0 I just did butt-splices along the right side behind the panel and called it done. It looked good, but I always felt I could have done a better job.

For Ruby 2.0, I decided to add DB15 connectors and make a nice installation out of it. There is quite a matrix of wires and I wanted to be sure that I got every connected and accounted for. Going back and adding something later would be a lot of work. I made a little Excel spread sheet that listed to the two stick grip connectors and their pinouts on the right side, and the source connections on the left. I drew wiring paths between the right side connectors that were common, and then paths to the sources on the left. It really worked out great, because through the process I discovered that I had forgotten to add a source wire to the Autopilot for the engage/disengage button. Whew.

Anyway, lots of tedious wiring and striping and soldering today, but I'm happy to report that it came out really nice and I'm very pleased with the new 2.0 treatment.
