Brief Description:  Building An Audio/Video Panel - Part 02

I've been scratching my head for a few months now trying to figure out a really elegant solution to installing no-less than 6 RCA jacks in the place that used to hold a single 1/8" jack. I found some really nice jacks on the web and ordered them, but then noticed that they mount from the FRONT and have a nut on the back. That means that once you've installed them and soldered wires on, they are permanently mounted. That's a bummer for painting and labeling and kind of limits the ability to just mount them directly in the fuselage bulkhead. By the way, I opted to go with RCA jacks this time instead of the 1/8" round jacks because there will be no issues of intermittent connectivity.

So, I got on the 'ol CAD program and started messing around with various layouts and configurations. After about a day, I had a layout that I was pretty happy with and included both a mounting plate, hole cutout, and silkscreeing templates - all in a single diagram! I printed the drawing out on a sheet of laser printer label stock and cut the outside dimensions out and then just stuck it to the bulkhead right where I wanted it. Hole drilling, cutting, and filing was a snap and just required carefully following the patterns.

Once the hole in the fuselage bulkhead was completed, the rear-mounted mounting plate was cut and drilled using the same label technique. The plate mounts from the rear and will have a label on it for the various inputs and outputs. The RCA connector plate can be screwed in and out as necessary and can be removed completely for interior painting later on! No paint on the connectors! Super cool.

I think that whole thing came out very professional looking and best of all, there shouldn't be any connectivity issues during usage!
