Brief Description:  Replaced 3/16" Bolts on Horz Stab Hinges

Whew, well it wasn't exactly easy, but I got the 3/16" bolts and nuts replaced with 3/16" rivets tonight. The pneumatic squeezer I've got coupled with the 20-year old compressor just really wasn't in the mood to set these monster rivets. So, I had to basically set them a little at a time, then adjust the squeezer for more, then set a little more. I finally got them bucked down to the minimum recommended shop-head diameter. The factory heads are a little worse for the wear, but they look alright. Considering how much bigger these rivets are compared to the "stock" 1/8" rivets, I don't think these hinges will ever come off. Best of all, you'll notice from the pictures that there is now plenty of space to squeeze the skin rivets above and below the hinges. If I had of left the bolts and nuts on, I would have had to use pop-rivets in 8 places on the skin which would have been pretty ghetto...

This exersize in heartache was due exclusivly to the fact that I forgot to mark the holes for the hinges before I started riveting the rear spar and ended up putting 1/8" rivets in and then having to drill them out leaving giant holes that wouldn't take 1/8" rivets any longer, particularly for holding the hinges on.
