Brief Description: Lexan Instument Panel Mockup - Part 3
There also appears to be plenty of space on the left and right side of the radio stack to add metal ears to secure the radio trays. Very nice. One point of interest is the mounting of the VP-200 display in the bottom middle. You'll note from the photos that its definitely too far back and not fitting flush with the front of the panel. The flange on the VP-200 is exactly .063" which is the same thickness as the standard instrument panel. Since I'm going with a .125" thick panel to offset all of the cutouts, I'm going to ask the CNC shop to route out the back side to the outside dimensions of the VP-200 to a depth of .063". This would the allow the instrument to fit flush on the front side. Frankly, I just wish that the VP-200 had a regular front mounted bezel like all of the other instruments.
All-in-all, I am *exceptionally* pleased with the fitting of the instruments into the Lexan mockup panel. I can hardly wait to hang the panel on the mounts in the airplane. First, though, I'll have to fab those radio stack brackets.
