Brief Description:  Kenwood Accessory Mod Box Fabrication

The Kenwood entertainment system had three external boxes. They were all fabricated out of heavy gauge steel sheet and weighed a ton. On top of that, they were large and had connectors coming out of multiple sides. Functionally, they provide the video switching and power for the rear seat LCD screen, power for the "check-six" rear video camera, and the RF receiver for the digital AM/FM tuner module. After a couple of tries, I finally settled on the nice arrangement shown in the pictures. I cut an aluminum project box down in height by about 40% and then arranged the PC boards such that they all fit inside the box and, most importantly, all of the connectors come out of the same side! The assembly weighs significantly less than the original three separate components did and should be a lot easier to mount somewhere hidden. Later when I have the instrument panel power coated, I'll probably have them power coat the little project box too just to finish it off nicely.
