Brief Description:  Rear LCD Screen & Cam Mounting - Part 2

On the inside of the head rest, I had to come up with a mounting scheme that would not only emulate the original mounting prong spacing, but also afford a more substantial mounting platform for the LCD screen/rear shell. A bit of head scratching and I came up with the setup shown in the pictures. It allows both the rear inner shell to be removed using the 6 screws on the sides, as well as removal of just the LCD screen and rear shell using the 4 rear screws. Removing the rear shell gives excellent access to the cables which can be disconnected from both the LCD and the Cam module. It all came out very nice and after the head rest is completely covered in black leather, it should blend in nicely with the LCD and Cam and make them less obvious.

I ran the LCD control/power/video cable from the processor up on the second bulkhead down along the right hand side and under the floor boards and ended up having exactly enough cable. One inch shorter and it wouldn't have fit! At the base of the pilot's seat, I cut the cable and terminated the tiny 30 gauge wires on a pair of DB25 connectors. I added a DB25 mount to the Control Column bridge and notched out the seat pan skin so that the pan can be removed without having to remove the lower DB25 connector! Sweet! The wires for the LCD and Cam will run down a channel formed by two rows of Velcro. The back upholstery piece is removable and the cable will be held nicely in that channel. Because of this and the DB25 connector pair, the pilot's seat back and/or the head rest and/or the LCD screen can all be easily removed as necessary down the road.

As can be seen in the pictures, the whole system works like a champ!! I tried out the rear seat and I'm so glad that I mounted the LCD in the head rest now! Its at the perfect height for comfortable viewing and can be monitored while also keeping an eye out the canopy as well. The rear LCD screen can display a variety of things including the Kenwood ground-based GPS moving map information, the DVD or iPod movie, as
