Brief Description:  Mounting Brackets For Radios - Part 1

The mounting brackets for the radio stack weren't too hard in and of themselves. The NAS1330A06-106 flush head Rivenuts are the sweet ticket. The front flanges really stiffen up the instrument panel and the added top part ties into the bottom of the mount for the left GRT HX display which gives a nice strength boost to the middle of the instrument panel. The brackets line up nicely with the CNC cut holes in the instrument panel and the radios slide in and out very nicely.

But here's the bummer. Since the instrument panel is .125" thick, and apparently, Garmin makes their mounting trays to be flush up against the back of the bezel, when all was said and done, the connectors in the back were not making connection by exactly .125"! Unbelievable! So, I did some fancy modifications on both the SL-30 and GTX-327 mounting trays whereby I moved the whole connector panel forward by exactly the requisites .125". Amazingly, it wasn't too bad of a job, but I did question whether or not it was going to work. In the end, it worked out great and both make solid contact and are flush up against the front of the instrument panel.
