Brief Description:  Bluetooth Cell Phone To Kenwood - Part 2

Ultimately, I came up with an impedance matching circuit that works perfectly at interfacing the PM3000's passenger headphone output directly to the Mic input on the Kenwood. I can now make a phone call from the airplane cockpit using the hands-free Bluetooth interface on the Kenwood, and completely using the headphones and microphone from the Bose X headsets! The sound quality is excellent and the convenience just can't be beat. The audio from the aircraft comm and nav radio - both receive and transmit - as well as the other various audio outputs such as from the VP-200 and EFIS units are all mixed into the headphones at the same time along with the Cell phone. This means two things. One, the pilot can hear everything at the same time (good thing) and the people on the other end of the cell phone call can also hear everything (cool thing). It all works amazingly well.

I also found that I can use my Blackberry to stream Internet music over the A2DP Bluetooth Device (high fidelity stereo) to the Kenwood as well! Both Slacker.com and DI.FM (with the after-market Xplayer app) work great.

I took the impedance matching circuit - basically three resistors - and built a special cable to go from the Passenger headphone output on the PM3000 to the Microphone input on the Kenwood. With some tricky soldering and heat shrink tubing wizardry, I was able to get it all to fit inside the 1/8" mono-jack case.

I am so jazzed that I was able to get all of this to work. It really pushes the coolness factor of the avionics package up through the clouds, IMHO! :-)
