Brief Description:  AHRS and EFIS 1 Internal Cabling - Part 1

The mounting bracket for the AHRS (Altitude and Heading Reference System) and the primary EFIS (Engine and Flight Information System) works well at mounting the components but presented a major problem with respect to accessing the cabling after the top skin was installed. It would be nearly impossible to access the various DB25 and DB9 connectors to remove the instrument panel for servicing later on as necessary since the bracket essentially obscured all of the internal AHRS and EFIS connectors.

I opted to fab up some short pig-tail flat-ribbon cables and used a Greenlee DB25 and DB9 chassis punch to stub the connectors out the side of the mounting bracket. All connectors that need to be disconnected for removing the instrument panel can now be accessed from the under side of the instrument panel. I custom cut and terminated all of the DB25 and DB9 flat ribbon cables and custom folded them which worked out well and over all.

The USB cables were way too long, so I found some sweet shop-terminations for USB and shortened up the cables as necessary. The one is for the XM Weather receiver output and is mounted on the side of the AHRS/EFIS1 bracket. The other USB is passed through the lightening hole of the bracket and will be screwed to the instrument panel.

I reterminated the Ethernet drop cable for the EFIS one and attached it directly to the Ethernet switch.

There is just enough service loop in all of the various cables to allow the main EFIS display to be removed and cables disconnected as necessary.
