Brief Description:  Cockpit Lighting - Part 1

Whew, cockpit lighting is done! Whoo hoo! I found trying to pick just the right location for all the various White LED lighting modules a bit on the trying side. I found two different LED modules that worked out very well and both are very light weight, use very little power, and are exceptionally bright. One module type has an array of 12 jumbo white LEDs and kicks out some serious light. I placed two of these on the #2 bulkhead facing the back of the instrument panel. This serves two purposes. One is to illuminate the back of the instrument panel later on down the road when I'm trying to stick my hand and a little screw driver in though the holes to modify something or if I've got my head under the instrument panel trying to adjust something. It will eliminate having to hold a flash light as well as whatever tool I happen to have and gives excellent light dispersion. The second purpose is to illuminate the foot well area for the pilot. There are some pictures below of the LED modules both with the shop lights on and off so you can get a better idea of just how effective these little guys are. Impressive.

I also added one of these 12-LED modules to the rear baggage area mounted to the back of the bulkhead that the passenger seat rests against. As you can see from the picture, it does an excellent job of illuminating the whole area. The other advantage is that with the baggage are skins off, it will greatly help in changing the battery or servicing various items in this area such as the autopilot pitch servo, strobe power supply, or elevator bellcrank.

The pilot area and the passenger area are each illuminated with a pair of 4-jumbo white LED adjustable post lights. These babies also really kick out the light and are adjustable such that you can readily put the light right where you want it. There is a pair on each side of the cockpit.
