Brief Description:  Baggage Door Fab - Part 1

The front baggage door is fairly complicated with a lot of parts to make what is actually a pretty substantial part. Since it is not symmetrical - it tapers in and down toward the front - proper assembly is pretty important. The plans say to rivet the top skin to the ribs, then cleco the bottom skin to the door and tape it to the fuselage hole and the crawl in and pop rivet it from the inside. This assures that the twist is just right and you end up with a door that will actually fit down correctly and seal all the way around. Fortunately, Craig was over on Thursday night when riveting was to commence on the baggage door, so he was able to crawl in to that small RV-8 foot well and get those pesky pop rivets set! Thanks Criag!

The Lock went in nicely, although I think that I need one that is not quite so deep as the linkage pins are kind of hanging out of the maintenance hole.

Next are the nylon inserts that the latch rods go into. These will be bolted to either side of the fuselage at the bottom of the door hole.
