Brief Description:  Wheel Pants - First Try - Part 2

But here's where the story gets good. At this point I'm pretty "frustrated" and "annoyed" with the whole process. I'm already on the second wheel pant and things just aren't fitting all that well. At one point, I'm kind of pulling on the wheel pant on the bottom to see just how much extra clearance I need, when "CRACK"! The fiberglass tears up the side in a line about 10" long! That was it! I couldn't take it anymore. I ripped the wheel pant off, threw it in a pile with the other pieces, and proceeded to jump up and down on them a few times to make sure they fully understood the extent of my frustration with them. I then threw their despicable carcasses into the trash! I didn't photo-document this last bit, as it wasn't a pretty sight. ;-)

I did some research on the web at that point and discovered that I wasn't the only one having these brake caliper interference issues! Seems that its pretty common. Basically what builders have been doing is drilling a 2.5" hole around the area of confliction, and then adding a fiberglass "blister" there to assure adequate clearance. Well, wouldn't it have been nice to have noted that some where in the instruction manual...?

So, I got on line and ordered up a new, complete set of wheel pants. A $350 exercise in futility, with no guarantee that the second attempt was going to be any easier or less frustrating. I quit early that day and went flying...
