Brief Description:  Wheel Pant Installation Part Duex - Part 01

The replacement wheel pants arrived via UPS on Thursday evening. Against my better judgement, I dove right in. The first thing I noticed about the replacement wheel pants was that the fiberglass quality was 10 times better than on the original set that I had! It appears like they were manufactured by a completely different vendor. The new ones are much more accurately cut and the fit of the front piece to the back piece was nearly perfect right out of the box! I did have to sand them flat a bit on my sand-paper-rubber-cemented-to-a-board tool, but this took only about 10 minutes and yielded a near-perfect alignment! Image how happy I was! But the alignment of the front/back parts wasn't the only improvement. The over all quality of the fiberglass is much better too and there are no spider cracks like before. It also seems like the new ones are a little bit lighter too, although I didn't actually weigh them.

The rest of the story is pretty uneventful. Armed with the knowledge that the brake caliper was just going to rub, the fitting and cutting and filing went very smoothly this time around. I spent some extra time making sure both the left and right wheel pants were correctly aligned both vertically and with respect to each other. When all was said and done and everything was screwed down, all measurements were within .125-.25" between the two! I was amazed.
