Brief Description:  Canopy Latch System - Part 1

The RV-8 Canopy latch is a pretty clever system that does an excellent job of holding things shut. Most of the parts were pre-cut and ready to use. The part of the latch that goes over the latch pin, however, was cut too large and accurate measurements had to be made to get the latching tension "just right". I under cut and then gently filed out bits, tested, filed bits, tested, etc. until it worked just perfectly. The handle on the outside had the two long tapers already cut along with the main hole drilled for the rod. I had to round off the front and round the square edges. I also had to drill a hole from the front of the handle and tap it for the 6/32 screw. I opted to use an Allen-head screw and counter bored the front of the handle so that the head was flush. Looks really cool.
