Brief Description: Vetterman Exhaust - IO-390 4-into-4 - Part 1
The Larry Vetterman exhaust system for the RV-8 arrived today. Truly a work of art. On Larry's recommendation, I ordered his specially designed, RV-8, Lycoming IO-390 4-into-4 system. Basically its just four straight pipes that work their way to the underside of the cowling and have a slight downward tip to reduce the cockpit noise. But with 390 CI up front, 4 straight pipes are going to be LOUD! NICE! Larry claims a noticeable increase in horsepower over the traditional cross-over system that is typically used on RVs. The 4-in-4 let the engine breath better and decrease the back pressure. They are bent just right to fit nice and tight into the small RV-8 cowling. A heat muff is also included for cabin and/or carb heat (carb heat not needed on the injected IO-390). These babies are a work of art. At $820 delivered they are an excellent value too.
