Brief Description:  Fitting Upper & Lower Cowlings Together - Part 1

Once again, a butt-joint is used to join the upper and lower cowling halves together. This time, however, it was a little "easier" to mark and fit them. I used a strip of old computer punch tape - circa 1975 - to mark the first cutline on the top cowling. I'm told there is a score line on the cowlings for cutting but I couldn't find it so I just found the exact center of the cowling inlet and marked the top accordingly. The Dremel #409 cutoff wheel made a nice, clean, straight cut on the top cowling and then I finished up with a file.

The top cowling then went back on and situated such that it overlapped the bottom cowling. This gave a nice way to mark the lower cowling cut line with a Sharpie that would form a perfect butt-joint. After marking, I pulled the lower cowling off and cut and filed. I'm happy to report the technique worked perfectly! The joint between the upper and lower cowlings is perfect and you couldn't even slide a piece of paper though it!
