Brief Description:  Oil Fill Door Installation - Part 2

I added a little piece of .032 sheet for the latch jam to attach too. The problem with this was, however, that the Camloc appears to be made to latch to the cowling surface and the 1/8" offset that the jam had made caused the lock to completely not work correctly. I had to add a piece of .125" under the lock to get it to latch. It is VERY positive when closing now and I'm very pleased with the holding power.

The weight of the door is such that the little assist-spring on the hinge is a bit under powered, but the door kind of opens slowly like its a gas-strut, so I guess that's actually kind of cool.

I added some fiberglass resin mixed with a half tablespoon of cotton flocking to seal in the hinge and lock jam. I put a light gooping down first, then riveted through, then applied the thicker coat to the top. Seems to be bonded nicely now.
