Brief Description:  Rubber Baffling Gasket Fabrication - Part 02

From the bottom of the paper template, again along the contour line, I measured up exactly 3/8" and drew a line. This became the rivet line; now the rivets also follow the exact contour of the baffles. I marked off rivet holes at 1.5" centers starting about .5" in from one side.

I repeated this process for the back right, back left, right and left sides, and front pieces. I carefully formed the left and right rear corners such that no additional gasket material was needed to form a perfectly tight seal in the corner.

Up front, it was a little more work to get everything to fit including going around the front-mounted governor in such a way that the baffling could be removed for serving in the future. Some careful overlapping tab design and I was able to seal up the whole front area in only five pieces of gasket with minimal duplication of coverage.

There are also two pieces of gasket material that are riveted to the bottom of the left and right, lower cowling nostrils. These form a seal going on to the left and right floor baffles. Again, the paper-dolls worked out well and the fit and finish of the rubber gaskets came out exceptionally well.

I trial fit the cowling together and found that I had a perfect seal all the way around where the cowling contacts the rubber gaskets.

Sweet!
