Brief Description:  Snorkel Intake Installation - Part 02

I marked the throttle body flange on the over-sized mounting flange on the snorkel and also marked one of the screw holes. I used the die-cut gasket to mark the other three holes since I couldn't get my pen in from behind to mark the other holes. The 3" cutoff wheel worked nicely at cutting off the snorkel flanges followed by a flat rasp to round off the edges.

On the other end of the snorkel, the air filter intake was a bit too long and the contour did not at all match the bottom of the baffle floor. I made a series of progressive cuts to finally get the snorkel to match up perfectly with the bottom of the floor baffle minus 3/8" to account for the air filter thickness. Once the snorkel was cut down, mounting flanges where cut and fit to it. These where then in turn fit up to the underside of the baffle floor and platenuts and screws added. You also have to add some additional skin stiffeners to the left and right sides of the baffle on the top. Since my left floor baffle was shaped differently because of the IO-390 engine, I had to fabricate special sized stiffeners. For some reason, my air filter hole was biased too aft, so I had to fabricated a couple of shims to go along the top to make sure the air filter was properly secured.

All in all, the snorkel and air filter installation came out exceptionally nice. Changing the air filter requires unassembling the whole thing, but it doesn't take too long.
