Brief Description:  Engine Baffle Pieces Powdercoated - Part 1

I picked the engine sheet metal baffling components up from the powdercoaters last Friday and in a word they are - beautiful!! I really like the texture and color. The surface doesn't show any fingerprints or mars of any kind. It also seems extremely durable. The color and texture of the powdercoat on the engine baffle pieces was kind of a test to see if I would like that on the instrument panel and other interior components. At this point the answer would be a resounding YES. I also noticed that the color and sheen of the powdercoat texture matches the black leather upholstery almost EXACTLY which in turn also matches the carpet in a similar way. Decision made.

I installed all of the finished engine baffle pieces back on to the engine and managed somehow to not get a single scratch on any of the pieces! Once everything was mounted and secured including the oil cooler, I riveted all of the rubber seals to the top edge of the baffling. I'm really loving the black-n-chrome theme on the engine, and the powdercoated sheet metal, black rubber, and shiny aluminium wide-shoulder rivets were in perfect keeping with it.

I've ordered a black ignition wiring harness that is suppose to arrive at the end of November. At that time I will install the spark plugs harness. I've got a couple more things to finish up on the engine before then, however, including adding a cushion clamp between the #1 cylinder in tank pipe and the heater SCAT tubing, finishing the air cleaner snorkel final assembly, applying some Proseal to the heater vent on the firewall, and sealing up the wiring firewall penetrations. With the completion of these tasks, the FWF will be truly complete. I would be comfortable cranking the engine over at that point. I plan to wait on that, however, until after I get the whole plane is back from the interior painting.
