Brief Description:  Resculpting The Seat Foam - Part 1

I've always been pretty pernickety about my seat position and configuration, and, as one would suspect, the ergonomics of the RV-8 seat was no exception. For some reason, the stock foam configuration on the front seat for the Classic Aero Designs RV-8 "Aviator" package just didn't push me in the right places.

After a whole lot of cutting and taping and cutting some more and taping some more, I finally came up with a configuration that suits me just right. Interestingly, I found that adding the top bolster up by the shoulders, *really* pushed the comfort level up. Also, having just the right amount *and* shape of lumbar support was critical.

I had originally cut about 2" off the bottom of the stock seat cushion, but found that adding about 1" extra Temperfoam blue in back and yellow in the front, just really tied the comfort of the whole thing together. Whew, finally... I've been agonizing for a few weeks now over getting a good "fit" and was never quite satisfied until today.

So now the seats all go back to Classic Aero Designs to have them actually sculpt a real back and bottom seat set from all new foam using my mock up as a pattern. They are also going to resculpt the rear seat out of all Temperfoam instead of the standard foam they are currently made from. When they are done, they will ship everything back to me for a final trial fit before the all-leather upholstery is added.
