Brief Description:  Carpet Patterns - Front Rudder Pedal Area - Part 1

Whew, it took the good part of three weeks to do it all, but I'm happy to report that all of the carpet patterns are done!! This includes the Rear Baggage Area, the Main Cabin Area, the Front Rudder Pedal Area, and the Front Baggage area.

In each case, I carefully measured every aspect of the area and translated it into a CAD drawing. In most cases, I even tried to account for the carpet bend radius by decreasing the length of the overlapping piece by 5/16" which is the measured radius of the carpet I'll be installing.

Once the first CAD version was done, I printed it out the 24" plotter and then used a straight edge and an Xacto knife to carefully die-cut the pattern out. In the cases where the pattern was wider than 24", I drew a dotted line down the center and printed the pattern in two pieces and then taped them carefully together. The first printout then got trial fitted into the given area and I made notes of any dimensions that weren't quite "right". I took all of these adjustments and updated the CAD drawing, printed it out and cut it out again, and then trial fit it a second time. I found that generally the third or sometimes forth iteration of this yielded a pattern that fit like a glove!

All of this measuring, and plotting, and cutting was a whole lot of tedious work, but I think the end result should be worth it. Assuming the carpet fits as nicely as the paper-dolls do, the carpeting in Mr RV-8 should look totally custom and kind of like one of those "molded inserts" they use in cars these days.
