Brief Description:  Aileron Hinges - Part 1

The aileron hinge fabrication went pretty smoothly. The parts are already cut to size and predrilled. There is a boss on each side to mount the hinge bearing in between the left and right halves. Assembly mostly involved priming, riveting, and then filing the edges off. Amazingly simply compared to the RV-4 where as I recall I had to cut all off these pieces out of raw material!

The rear spars are already pre-drilled to accept the assembled aileron hinges and as it turned out they fit perfectly. I was able to reach all but the very bottom rivets with the pneumatic squeezer, so the rivets all turned out very nice. The bottom rivets I was able to get with the hand squeezer and these turned out well too. The best part is that I didn't have to pick up the rivet gun even once!
