Well, I got the fiberglass wing tips down from storage to have a look at the fit and finish and try to gauge just how much of a hassle they were going to be to mount. But the first thing I discovered was that the left tip had what appeared to be a crushed in area on the top side right in the middle. "Oh great," I think, "I wonder when I did that...?" But then I started looking closer and I noticed that on the inside of the fiberglass tip, there was a 8"x6" fiberglass patch! It would appear that the fiberglass vendor tried to patch the wing tip when they, themselves, dropped something on it, and then did a quick patch underneath and didn't bother to resurface the top side or redo the gelcoat. Unbelievable.
So, I took some pictures and emailed them to Van's support and asked if I could get a replacement. I received a reply back from Van's and they have indicated that they are shipping me a replacement tip today. Yahoo!
