Brief Description:  Preparing Bottom Wing Skins For Riveting - Part 1

Things are starting to get exciting on the wings now. I turned my attention to preparing the outboard bottom skins on both the left and right wings. Preparation involves primarily a whole lot of deburring, edge filing, and hole dimpling. The ribs and spars also required dimpling. Fortunately, the pneumatic dimpler makes quick work of these areas. I was able to exclusively use the pneumatic dimpler on the ribs and spars. On the skin itself, I was able to use it along the perimeter of the skin and about two holes in. I had to finish up the deeper holes using the manual, long throat dimpler which came out equally as nice although holding the skin in one hand and working the handle with the other proved to be a bit of a trick sometimes.

I also had to prepare the access cover hole and cover itself, adding the 8ea plate nuts and dimpling for both the #6 and #8 screws.

Basically the skins are ready to rivet on now after a light coat of primer to the inside surface. I'll probably tackle that stressful task next...
