Brief Description:  Custom Flap Intersection Fairings - Part 1

After fitting the flaps and getting them rigged, I went to trim the under side flap skin per the plans and discovered that for some reason it had been cut too short by either Van's or the QB builders. This meant that there was a large gap at the back of the flap when they were fully retracted. Moreover, because of the gap, there would be a large "air scoop" of sorts that would cause a fair amount of drag.

After considerable thought and quite a bit of head scratching, I came up with the sweet flanges shown in the photos. They fit nicely onto the flap and look like they were made to be there. Best of all, the really clean up the flap intersection and completely seal up the bottom. Their angles even look pretty cool when the flaps are down. Overall, a major win.
