Brief Description:  Wings Off For The Last Time - Part 1

Building HOBBS Meter: 1572 Hours

Now that all of the wing-to-fuselage fairings are complete along with the wing skins, wing tips, lights, pitot, flaps, ailerons, and rigging, it was time to remove the wings for the last time until final assembly out at the hanger. I was somewhat melancholy about the event as it in some ways feels like a step backward. Its been really cool having the whole thing assembled in the garage and coming out and seeing what looks like a complete airplane out there in the shop. But, there's just not enough room to have the wings on and get the engine mounted, so they had to come off. I only have to finish installing the fuel level senders and sealing the end caps on the tanks which hopefully will happen this week. I'll probably move the wings into the house after that to keep them safe and to make more room in the workshop.

Craig came over on Monday night and gave me a hand unbolting and removing the wings and then hauling everything out to the yard to rearrange the workshop for the final phase of assembly - The Engine Installation! Yahoo!
