Brief Description:  Lighting & Electrical Revised, Then Approved!

The City of Livermore approved the Lighting and Electrical upgrades in the hanger today!! I had to significantly scale back my requirements due to the available power to the hanger; basically a single 20 amp breaker feeds three hangers. Also, California has an energy conservation policy that will only allow a certain level of wattage per square foot of space. There are different wattage allowances for different space types. For example, a retail store is allowed 1.5 watts/sq/ft. Since there wasn't a category for "Airplane Hangar", the City initially used the "Other" category which carries only a .6 watt/sq/ft rating. That would have meant that I would have needed to reduce my light count by three more 8' fixtures! There's no way that was enough. So, I downloaded the code from the web and had a look. There was a category called "Auto Repair" that carried a 1.1 watt/sq/ft rating, so I asked the City if the space could be reclassified under this provision instead. They agreed that was reasonable, and as of today, have issued the permit!
