Brief Description:  Rear Throttle Quadrant with Prop Control - Part 2

On the pilot's throttle quadrant, there are three levers instead of two. These include the Throttle, Mixture, and Prop Control. Since there isn't enough room in the back for all three, I opted for just two controls, the Throttle and Prop Control. Dayton Murdock, the friendly fellow than manufactures these quadrants, will custom make a special top plate with the Throttle/Prop labeling to replace the normal Throttle/Mixture. I spoke with him today and he will be making me a replacement plate and sending out in a week or so.

Next up is the front throttle quadrant mounting. I've been working on this, but was using the flat-plate version. What I found was that the flat plate version doesn't fit very well in the stock RV-8 mounting brackets. I was kind of bummed at the poor fit. Tonight, I trial fit the new round-y topped version of the three-lever quadrant and found that it fits PERFECTLY! I don't know why Van's is selling only the flat-top version (I had to order the round-y version from Aircraft Spruce). I think I will send an email to Van's and show them the sweet two-lever rear installation, and also mention that they should consider carrying the round-y versions instead of the flat versions of the quadrants since the fit is so superior.

Once the front throttle quadrant is mounted, I'm going to have to figure out exactly how I'm going to interconnect the front and rear quadrants. On the RV-4, I special ordered some of the same green clevis cables used to connect to the engine and it came out really nice. I'll have to fab a couple of special brackets to get that kind of arrangement to work on the RV-8, but it seems doable at this point.
